Getting Started with eBooks

 
Does the library have eBooks I can download (i.e. transfer to a computer or device), and, if so, where can I find them?
Yes, the library provides access to eBooks through the library’s website. Look for the Download eBooks & Audiobooks button in the bottom left corner. This will connect you to the Ohio eBook Project website.
 
Are all of the books that are currently at the library also available as eBooks?
No.  The Ohio eBook Project provides access to thousands of eBook titles, but not every book in the library is also available as an eBook title.
 
What do I need to download the library’s eBooks?
  • A valid library card
  • A computer (see the Supported eBook Devices page on the Ohio eBook Project website)
  • Internet access
  • An e-mail address
  • Free software for your computer (available through the Ohio eBook Project website - click on My Help for detailed instructions)
  • An eBook reader, such as a Kindle or Nook (this is optional - most eBooks can be downloaded on your computer if you do not have an eReader)
Can I download eBooks using library computers?
No.  EBooks cannot be downloaded using library computers due to software issues, but they can be downloaded from home or in the library using your own computer.
 
What is an eReader?
An eReader is a portable electronic device used to read books in digital form (eBooks).
 
What eReader devices work with the library's eBooks?
There is an ever-growing list of supported devices.  For the most current information, visit the Supported eBook Devices page on the Ohio eBook Project website.  
 
What types of eBooks does the library offer?
There are 3 types of eBooks available:  Adobe PDF, Adobe EPUB, and Kindle Books.  Kindle Books are only available for the Kindle.  Adobe EPUB eBooks are available for all eReaders, excluding the Kindle.  Adobe PDF eBooks are avaialbel for all eReaders except Kindle, Andriod, Blackberry, iPhone, iPad, iPad2, iPod Touch, and Windows Phone 7
 
Does the library have eReaders I can borrow?
No.  The library does not lend eReaders at this time.
